Linseed

Linseed is a great source of essential fatty acids omega-3 and phytoestrogens- lignans. It also provides a high dose of dietary fibre, magnesium, potassium, manganese, phosphorus, iron and copper.

Linseeds are recommended for people suffering from irritable bowel syndrome (with constipation), since due to their high fibre content, they give good soothing results. They also have other properties, like aiding digestion, helping reduce blood cholesterol levels, they have positive effect on cardiovascular system, stabilize blood glucose level and increase insulin sensitivity. They are gluten free, which makes them safe for people suffering from coeliac disease and gluten allergy.

Linseed is a great addition to salads, yoghurt, homemade bread. It can be used as a healthy alternative to breadcrumbs for fish or meat. Ground linseeds may be added to smoothies, as an essential fatty acids supplementation.

If you’re not using linseeds in your kitchen yet – you should start!
